Who are we?

Our Mission and Vision

Mission:

To develop and implement long lasting solutions to power supply challenges faced by the IEUG Members.

Vision:

To provide IEUG Members access to adequate, secure, reliable, predictable and uninterrupted electricity at competitive tariffs. With the aim for a significant percentage of this to be “green” power generation.

Our Objectives

Updated 2026:

  • To procure a steady supply of power from generators within the Southern African Power Pool (SAPP). Including but not limited to State Owned Utilities (SOU) and Independent Power Producers (IPPs) on behalf of our members.
  • To promote the efficient usage of energy through auditing and energy management.
  • To support the development of power generation in Zimbabwe.
  • To support the strengthening and upgrading of the transmission facilities which connects an IEUG member to efficient power transmission networks.

Progress to date

Updated 2026:

IEUG has secured a reliable and steady supply of base
load capacity from current local IPP’s. Plans are well underway to procure additional base
load capacity from the local and regional suppliers.

Plans are well advanced to significantly expand solar energy generation in the coming years. At the same time, private investors are developing additional coal-fired plants to meet the growing demands of large-scale mining and beneficiation projects. Complementing these initiatives, a natural gas-fired power station in Mozambique is expected to contribute to the regional grid, while further investment is being directed toward new hydroelectric facilities along the Zambezi. Collectively, such projects are aimed to ensure that solar and other renewable energies make up a third of all power generation in the country.
